The FiFi + Flow Global Festival Spotlight Series is a year-round media and storytelling initiative created through a collaboration between Festival International Films Inclusion (FiFi), MMPR Group, and Dr. Flow’s Love In Action Network.

The series gives filmmakers, actors, directors, producers, screenwriters, cultural leaders, festival participants, and other creative professionals an opportunity to share the stories behind their work with audiences beyond the traditional festival experience.

Our goal is simple: extend the life, visibility, and impact of the stories and artists connected to the festival.

This FAQ explains what to expect, how the production process works, and what you need to do next.

GETTING STARTED

1. What is the FiFi + Flow Global Festival Spotlight Series?

The FiFi + Flow Global Festival Spotlight Series is an ongoing interview, podcast, media, and artist-development initiative highlighting creative voices connected to the FiFi community and its broader international network.

Rather than allowing the festival experience to end when the screenings, awards, or events conclude, the Spotlight Series creates additional opportunities for artists to talk about their work, introduce themselves to new audiences, and document their creative journeys.

This begins your submission and production process.
You will receive additional information regarding your feature, required materials, and scheduling.

4. How will I receive my podcast date?

Podcast scheduling will be coordinated directly through Dr. Flow and the production process.

Because this is an ongoing series involving multiple participants, dates will be coordinated as production progresses.

5. Is everyone being interviewed at once?

No.

The Spotlight Series is intentionally being produced as an ongoing series.

Dr. Flow will be producing approximately one participant podcast feature per week until the current group of participants has been completed.

This allows each artist and project to receive individual attention rather than attempting to rush everyone through production simultaneously.

6. What if my podcast date is several weeks away?

That is completely normal.

The Spotlight Series is designed as a year-round initiative, not a one-day or one-week festival promotion.
Your feature remaining in the production pipeline actually supports one of the central purposes of the program: continuing to talk about FiFi artists, films, projects, and stories long after the traditional festival window.

Please retain your confirmed information and watch for communications regarding your production date.

THE INTERVIEW

7. What will we talk about during my interview?

Every conversation will be shaped around the individual participant, but topics may include:

• Your creative journey
• Your film or project
• Why you created the work
• The story behind the story
• Challenges you encountered
• Lessons learned during production
• Cultural or social themes within the work
• Your experience as an artist
• Your involvement with FiFi
• Career development
• Representation and inclusion

The goal is not simply to promote a title. We want audiences to understand the human being and creative journey behind the work.

8. Is this a traditional press interview?

Not exactly.

The Spotlight Series is designed to be conversational, thoughtful, encouraging, and artist-centered.
We want you to have space to tell your story rather than simply delivering promotional talking points.

The conversation may certainly help promote your work, but the larger objective is to introduce audiences to your creative vision, experiences, values, and journey.

9. Do I need professional interview experience?

No.

You do not need to be an experienced public speaker or media personality.

One purpose of the Spotlight Series is to help artists become more comfortable discussing themselves and their work publicly.

The interview experience can help participants strengthen their ability to:

• Tell their creative story
• Discuss their work clearly
• Speak confidently on camera
• Explain the purpose behind a project
• Communicate with media
• Pitch themselves and their work
• Prepare for future interviews
• Connect more naturally with audiences

Think of the experience as both media exposure and media-readiness development.

10. Do I need to memorize answers?

No.

Please do not feel that you need to memorize a speech.
Know your project. Know your story. Know what matters to you.

Authentic conversation is far more valuable than perfectly rehearsed answers.

11. Can I promote my film, project, organization, or upcoming work?

Yes.

Participants are encouraged to discuss relevant current and upcoming work.

When appropriate, you may also share information about where audiences can:

• Support your creative work

SUBMISSION MATERIALS

12. Will I need to submit materials before my interview?

Participants may be asked to provide materials that help us prepare and promote the feature.

Depending upon the feature, these may include:

15. What is the Winner’s Circle Series?

The Winner’s Circle Series celebrates award recipients, official selections, honorable mentions, festival alumni, and other recognized participants.

These conversations help document achievement while allowing audiences to learn more about the people and creative work behind festival recognition.

16. What is the Global Voices Initiative?

The Global Voices Initiative highlights creators from different countries, regions, cultures, and artistic traditions.

The series may include voices from Africa, Europe, North America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and other participating regions.

The objective is not simply international representation. It is genuine cultural exchange through storytelling.

17. What is the Legacy Spotlight Series?

The Legacy Spotlight Series features accomplished actors, filmmakers, producers, cultural leaders, and other industry professionals whose careers offer valuable insight for emerging generations.

These conversations may explore longevity, resilience, career development, leadership, artistic evolution, and lessons learned over time.

18. What is the Emerging Voices Showcase?

The Emerging Voices Showcase creates space for first-time filmmakers, student creators, independent artists, and storytellers who are still developing their professional visibility.

You do not need decades of credits to have something important to contribute.

An emerging voice can carry a powerful story.

RECORDING, CONTENT & DISTRIBUTION

19. Where could my interview appear?

Content from the initiative may be distributed or promoted through participating media and community channels, which may include:

20. Will the interview only exist as a podcast?

Not necessarily.

The larger vision is a multi-platform media initiative.
Depending upon the feature and available production resources, content may potentially be developed into or repurposed as:

Not every format is guaranteed for every participant.

21. Will I automatically receive every possible type of promotional asset?

No.

The program is designed to create a growing media ecosystem, but specific deliverables may vary.

A full interview does not automatically guarantee a particular number of clips, graphics, reels, promotional posts, or other derivative assets unless those deliverables have been specifically confirmed.

This allows the initiative to remain flexible as production and distribution opportunities grow.

22. Can I share my feature?

Yes. We strongly encourage participants to help extend the reach of their stories.

When your feature becomes publicly available, sharing it with your own audience can help create additional visibility for you, your project, FiFi, and the other artists participating in the initiative.

23. Can I use the interview to promote myself professionally?

Publicly released materials may be valuable for your professional visibility, portfolio, publicity, audience development, and media presence, subject to any applicable usage instructions associated with the content.

The larger goal is to create material that continues working for artists beyond the original conversation.

EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

24. Is this only a promotional program?

No.

Promotion is one part of the initiative.

The broader vision includes storytelling, professional development, media readiness, education, networking, cultural exchange, and community building.

The Spotlight Series is being developed as an ecosystem rather than simply a collection of podcast episodes.

25. Will there be workshops or masterclasses?

Educational programming is part of the developing vision for the initiative.

Yes.

The initiative is intentionally global.

28. What if English is not my first language?

International voices and cultural perspectives are an important part of this initiative.

No.

The long-term vision is to establish an ongoing international storytelling and media platform that strengthens the relationship between the festival, its artists, audiences, cultural partners, and creative communities throughout the year.

SCHEDULING & PRODUCTION

31. How quickly will everyone be featured?

Production will move progressively through the participant list.

Dr. Flow plans to produce approximately one participant podcast feature each week until everyone in the current production group has been completed.

Because of this, some participants may be scheduled sooner than others.

Please do not interpret a later production date as a reflection of the importance of your project. The weekly schedule is designed to give each feature appropriate production attention.

32. What if I need to reschedule?

We understand that participants may be working across productions, festivals, countries, professional schedules, and time zones.

Advance communication makes rescheduling significantly easier.

33. What if I have not received my date yet?

35. When will my episode be released?

Release schedules may vary.

Your recording date should not automatically be interpreted as your publication date.

Participants will receive or be directed to relevant release information as episodes move through production.

PARTICIPANT PREPARATION

36. How should I prepare?

Before your conversation:

• Review the basic story of your project.
• Think about why the work matters to you.
• Identify one or two stories from the creative process you would enjoy sharing.
• Know where audiences can find you.
• Have accurate project information available.
• Consider what you want someone discovering you for the first time to remember.
• Make sure your technology is ready for the recording.
• Arrive prepared to have a genuine conversation.

Most importantly, come prepared to be yourself.

37. What makes a strong Spotlight interview?

The strongest interviews usually happen when participants move beyond simply listing accomplishments.

Tell us what happened.
Tell us what challenged you.
Tell us what surprised you.
Tell us why you kept going.
Tell us why this particular story needed to exist.
Tell us what you want audiences to feel, understand, question, or remember.

That is where a promotional interview becomes meaningful storytelling.

38. What if I am nervous?

That is okay.

You are not expected to arrive as a professional television presenter.

Dr. Flow is a Broadway veteran, teaching artist, coach, interviewer, and community builder. The conversation will be facilitated with the goal of helping you communicate naturally and confidently.

The Spotlight Series is interested in your story, not in testing your ability to perform an interview perfectly.
